Leadership development is a core part of student life at SELAH. All students are members of FFA and 4-H and participate in leadership, service, and skill-building opportunities throughout the year.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in additional clubs, such as:
Grange
National Honor Society
National Technical Honor Society
Future Business Leaders of America
SkillsUSA
Students have access to the SELAH Learning Farm, a 23-acre site just a few miles from our campus. The farm is a hands-on learning environment where students apply classroom knowledge to agricultural and leadership experiences.
Students participate in field trips that connect classroom learning to real-world experiences, including visits to local farms, research centers, museums, aquariums, and the North Carolina General Assembly. All field trips are included as part of the program and are fully covered by the school.
In addition, students collaborate on a group community service project and are encouraged to pursue individual service in an area they are passionate about.
SELAH follows a hybrid schedule:
Monday & Friday: Work-based learning and applied projects
Tuesday–Thursday: On-campus academic instruction, field trips, or other student events.
This structure allows students to connect learning with real work while maintaining a consistent school routine.
Daily life at SELAH reflects more of a professional, workplace-style environment than a traditional school. Students spend part of the week at our campus in focused academic sessions and the rest engaged in hands-on, work-based projects.
On campus, students attend seminars where they collaborate, research, and apply lessons to their projects. They manage their time, track progress, and communicate with teachers regularly- building accountability and organizational skills.
Off campus, students participate in work-based learning, agricultural projects, and community experiences, applying what they’ve learned to real-world challenges. This rhythm helps students develop independence, practical skills, and good personal habits.
